“The Spirit of Pride”

Hello 👋 😁 & Welcome!

Today, I felt compelled to share a post on the spirit of pride. Pride is defined as: A feeling of deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one’s own achievements, the achievements of those with whom one is closely associated, or from qualities or possessions that are widely, admired.

The two types of pride: Authentic pride has been characterized by words such as “Accomplished” and “Confident,” whereas Hubristic pride had been characterized by words such as “Arrogant,” and “Conceited.”

Pride is often driven by poor self-worth and shame. We feel so badly about ourselves that we compensate by feeling superior. We look for others flaws as a way to conceal our own. We relish criticizing others as a defense against recognizing our own shortcomings. The sin of pride is an excessive preoccupation with self and one’s own importance, achievement, status, or possessions. This sin is considered rebellion against God because it attributes to one’s self the honor and glory that only God is due.

God Hates Pride:

Proverbs 8:13

13- “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.”

Proverbs 11:2

2- “When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.”

Proverbs 16:5

5- “Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.”

We are instructed throughout scripture to measure ourselves according to the stature of Jesus Christ as he is our true living example. Yet, we tear people down in word and deeds and this ought not to be so. As Christian’s when we see our brother or sister stumble we are to restore them and welcome them back into the fold not become a stumbling block. It is better to show compassion as on any given day, we ourself may fall into temptation. So, let us all display the love of Christ as we are all commanded to do so by the authoritative word of God.

Matthew 7:3

3- “And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?“

Although we can easily see the other person’s faults, we are often blind to our own role. For most of us, it is hard to shift the focus from others to ourselves. Let us seek guidance and ask God to help us clearly, see ourselves.

Hello, my name is Pride:

I am a cheater. I’ll cheat you of your God-given destiny, as you demand your own way.

I’ll cheat you of contentment because you “deserve better than this.”

I’ll cheat you of knowledge because you already know it all.

I’ll cheat you from your healing because you are too full of yourself to forgive.

I’ll cheat you of holiness because you refuse to admit when you are wrong.

I’ll cheat you of your vision because you’d rather look in the mirror than out a window.

I’ll cheat you of genuine friendships because nobody’s going to know the real you.

I’ll cheat you of love because real romance demands sacrifice.

I’ll cheat you of greatness in heaven because you refuse to wash another’s feet on earth.

I’ll cheat you of God’s glory because I convinced you to seek your own.

My name is Pride. I am a cheater. You like me because you think I’m always looking out for you.

Untrue! I’m looking to make a fool of you. God has so much for you, I admit, but don’t worry, if you stick with me you’ll never know.

Pride:The Sin that Destroys Everything!!

A Collective Prayer: Most gracious Heavenly Father, we call upon you now in spirit and in truth. We want to believe we’re not prideful but the truth is we still wrestle with pride. Please help us to let go of pride. We pray, for a humble heart. We pray, we wouldn’t see ourselves as better than one another. We pray, we wouldn’t hinder others from helping, just so we could receive praise and glory. We pray, we would not allow pride to motivate us to argue with our spouses, families and friends. Instead we pray, humility would lead us. We pray, love would be our true motivation. The unconditional love that you have so kindly bestowed upon us as you died for the ungodly. Lord, give us the strength and endurance to be that beacon of hope just as you have been for us. Let others see Christ in and though us and give us that desire and deep determination to bring those lost sheep back into the fold. Lord, there is nothing too impossible for you to do. We decree and proclaim the work at the cross that you have pardon all of our sins so that we too may pardon others who trespass against us by actively showing the love of Christ to one another. Amen!

In His Grip,

Pastor Wendy Schenkel
