“A Prayer for Guidance”

Updated: Aug 20, 2022

The psalm is traditionally attributed to David. It is a reflection of how the righteous man prays for deliverance not only for freedom from suffering, but to allow himself to be able to serve God without distraction. It shows David coming to the LORD in the morning and receiving the strength and joy he needs to make it through the day against many adversaries.

Separation of non believers is sometimes necessary, because if they’re not for you they are against you. In the book of James it speaks of spiritual adulterers and adulteresses as God would rather we be cold or hot and not lukewarm.

*James 4:4 (KJV)

“Ye adulterers and ye adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is an enemy of God.”

*James 4:4 (Amplified Version)

“You adulteresses (disloyal sinners-flirting with the world and breaking your vowel to God!) Do you not know that being the worlds friend (that is, loving the things of the world,) is being God’s enemy? So whoever chooses to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy to God.“

*Revelations 3:16 (KJV)

“So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.“

*Revelations 3:16 (Amplified Version)

“So because you are lukewarm, spiritually useless, and neither hot nor cold, I will vomit you out of My mouth, rejecting you with disgust.”

Psalm 5 - A Morning Prayer

1- “Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider my meditation.”

2- “Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.”

3- “My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.”

4- “For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee.”

5- “The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.”

6- ”Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the Lord will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.”

7- “But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.”

8- “Lead me, O Lord, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.”

9- “For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.”

10- “Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee.”

11- “But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.”

12- “For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.”

The doctrine of separation, also known as the doctrine of non-fellowship, is a practice belief many Christians implement when their religious stand points are not taken seriously, mocked and disrespected.

There are many scriptures in both the Old Testament and New Testament of the Bible that provide the basis for this doctrine. For example:

• Amos 3:3 – "Can two walk together except they be agreed?"

• Ephesians 5:11 – "Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness…"

• II Corinthians 6:14 "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers..."

Romans 12:18

”If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peacably with all men.”

Enclosing, sometimes a separation is needed in order to keep the peace as conflicts arise and if they cannot be resolved it is better to live in harmony with yourself then to engage with contentious people. We can choose to see the reality of hurting people infecting their hurtful wounds onto others. Prayer is the key that unlocks the door as you cover hate with love and allow God to work inside their lives. We may know the stories of wounded friends, families and acquaintances but we do not know all the events and experiences in how it made them feel. It‘s best to address each conflict as they arise and not allow bitterness, resentment and unforgiveness to set in as it’s wrong to even the score with one another.

When you go looking for the bad in people expecting to find it, you surely will. Jesus tells us to look for the best and to show love as he knew the human nature of all mankind. Wicked men devise traps and trouble for the innocent and righteous, but these victims are told to love their enemies in return. Who will defend them? The great God of heaven will avenge His children. And His vengeance is often to turn their devices on their own heads. Romans 12:19 says, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” Evil men will not get away with conspiracies or plans against good men. God is just and takes the wise in their own craftiness. Job 5:13 says, “He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: And the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.” Psalm 10:2 says, “The wicked in his pride doth persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.” So, do not avenge yourself, for the Lord is against it and will do much better Himself.

People are often unreasonable and self centered, forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives, you be kind anyway. If you are honest, people may cheat you, yet be honest anyway. If you find happiness, people may be jealous, you go be happy anyway. The good you do today, may be forgotten tomorrow, but you do good anyway. Give the world the best you have to offer because in the end it‘s between you and God as it was never really between you and them. The seeds we plant today, will spring forth a harvest and depending on what is being planted love, joy, peace, understanding or hate, envy, chaos and lies. It all comes down to our choices. He who lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men and it shall be given to him. May the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

In His Grip,

Pastor Wendy Schenkel
